In May we reported on how the town of Obama, Japan, was supporting the U.S. presidential candidate whose name it shares
Upon hearing that Americans elected Barack Obama as their forty-forth president, the Fukui prefecture town burst out in celebration. The party kicked off Wednesday morning with Hawaiian dancing performed by the “Obama Girls,” in honor of Obama’s adoptive state, where his grandmother, who passed away Monday, had lived.

Town leaders hope the international fame generated by their support will translate into increased business opportunities, and local merchants are already selling Obama Burgers, Obama sushi rolls and other products with the president-elect’s face stamped on them.

Regardless of what the naysayer’s think… I feel that Obama has sufficiently lived up to his pledge to “shake things up” in goverment. Curious to see what the next two years of his term will bring.
