It sounds like a Muppets movie but it isn’t. Still it’s exciting — Rotem Gear will be a vendor at the 26th International Conference on Jewish Genealogy! Now, it takes a lot to dislodge us from our balmy weather here in L.A. to swelter in the ball of humidity that is NY in August, but we’re so looking forward to this that we created new genealogy designs just for the occasion!
The conference takes place at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel, August 13-18. Unfortunately we can’t invite the public because one has to register and even the vendor room will have security. But we do have some of these products online so no one needs to feel left out!
Samples:
- Tree Hugger shirts and gifts — the roomy, strong tote is just perfect for toting around all those genealogy materials and photos …
- Variations on the old “All I Got” tees … we have them for all ages but they are really cute on kids’ stuff: “My Ancestors Schlepped through Ellis Island and All I Got Was this Lousy T-Shirt (or Messy Bib)! (*and a 4,000 year old heritage)”

We’ve also digitally restored some cool vintage graphics (like sheet music covers from the golden age of Yiddish theater, as well as images from social and political posters.) Here’s a sneak peek!
Below: The range of graphics reflects the range of the Jewish experience in North America.
- A British-Canadian WW One Call to Enlist; sheet music covers (one a response to the famous Dreyfuss trial in France)
- “Learn English!” class announcement
- A call to laborers and farmers to join the proletarian Workers of Zion movement

All of the these are available here.

This is from Amy Peters, of Amy Peters’ Studio. She makes wonderful inspired and inspirational jewelry.
Please feel free to forward — it is a great “viral” fundraising project, inspired by the famous One Red Paper Clip story.
***********************************
So you all know a red paperclip is worth a house… So I’ve been sooooo inspired by the red paperclip story I’ve been hanging out at the trading forum over there…
A woman wanted to trade a pink paperclip for something to help her friend who is battling cancer. A women in Florida, Beth traded her a book “chicken soup for the woman’s soul”. I told her I’d trade her a “hope” bracelet for the pink paperclip.
Then it got me thinking…. So here’s what I’m doing…For every pink paperclip I receive I’ll send $1 to a cancer support center that I donate to each year. Up to $1000. Then when I reach that goal I want to trade the 1000 paperclips to someone who is willing to donate $10,000 to the support center.
I have a message into the support center to make sure I can use their name…but I donate to them on a regular basis and the founder was an AMAZING woman who just passed away after her breast cancer spread.
So send me pink paperclips…. …please spread it around….I want to make the 1000 mark as soon as possible!!!!

By now, everyone who hasn’t been living on a polar ice cap (which currently sounds tempting) knows about the famous One Red Paper Clip story. Like many others,we’ve submitted some whimsical Red Paper Clip t-shirt designs of our own to Mr. OPC.

But enough whimsey … because I want to continue in the next post about the Pink Paper Clip trade-up to benefit cancer survivors.

I’ve long been admirer of Flipside T-shirts, a shop offering Filipino- and Asian -themed shirts and other gifts, and now it’s boasting a whole new design making it better than ever. This shop is the creation of my friend “E” who has come up with designs from cool to cute that convey both cultural pride and a sense of humor.
I’ve long enjoyed the smiley rice cooker and the halo halo Coke parody designs in particular, but I am really liking this latest “Everybody Loves” design with the corny vintage graphic.

There also shirts for little ones and their grandparents, food shirts (adobo, pancit, lumpia .. gee i am getting hungry!) — even shirts for that Token White Guy and the Honorary Filipino in your life!
