Exactly How Desperate Do You Have to Be?

March 25th, 2006

Well, I like “Desperate Housewives” as much as the next person but even I was surprised to hear about Disney’s plans for a “Desperate Housewives” PC game slated to come out this fall. I mean, how desperate can you get? In the game, players take on the role of a new housewife on Wisteria Lane and get involved in scandals.

If you can’t wait for the game to come out, you can still play at being a desperate housewife. Take this quiz to find out which housewife you are!

And while you’re at it you might need one our desperate housewife t-shirts.

When is a Tea Pot a Flower Pot?

March 25th, 2006

When it’s a tea pot full of “blossoming” tea.

Blossoming Teas are apparently the latest craze in tea drinking. Blossoming Tea comes as a handmade ball made from top quality white tea, hand tied with flowers before drying. When added to hot water they unfold and release a delicate flavour. They also have high antioxidant levels.

They are available in a variety of flavours with great names that sound as if they were plucked out of Chinese classical literature: names like Jasmin Fairy, Spring Jewel, Golden Petal, Chrysanthemum Love, Colourful Clouds, New Magic Peach. A clear teapot enhances the experience:

Available at Nicholas Hitchcock

Diversity in Bloom for Passover

March 20th, 2006

This design was something I started four years ago and dropped. I finally decided to revive it after letting it languish in what equals, in graphics terms, 40 years in the wilderness.

There are three versions — one specifically for Passover, one that says “When we are one, the land blooms,” and one without text.

All represent the wonderful diversity of the Jewish people in Israel and abroad — Ashkenazi/Sephardic/Yemenite/Ethiopian, male/ female, urban/rural, religious/self-defining, white/brown and black.

The cards and postcards are bright and happy — just right for the Festival of Spring! … needless to say, these colorful little people are especially cute on kids’ clothes.

Blogged Again!

March 10th, 2006

Recent and not-so-recent sightings of Rotem Gear blogged!

Just My Cup of Tea blogged us again — this time our shamrock gear just in time for St. Patrick’s day.

The Daily Jews our of the U.K. showed off our “Not Yo’ Mama’s Nice Jewish Boy” shirt in this nice little article in their “Jewtastic” category some time ago:

If you are sick and tired about being seen as a nice Jewish boy, then the latest shirt from Rotem will allow you to express your feelings - Not Yo Mama’s Nice Jewish Boy.

Of course, you wouldn’t want to wear it in front of your mother, so ideal for those dates or club nights where you want to dress to impress and show you are not the stereotypical Jewish boy.

Just match it up with some jeans, maybe even wear it with a yarmulke, this will give you the look that shows you are a non-conformist.

The t-shirt itself will set up back $26.99, a small price to pay for such a bold statement.

Of course, if your mother should happen to spot you wearing the t-shirt, you can always quickly take it off and turn it inside out and tell your mother the reason for the label hanging outside is because it’s a new fashion statement.

Another fine design from the folks of Rotem who produce a range of tongue-in-cheek t-shirts that not just cover Jewish themes but other diverse groups and interest.

YoYenta! picked up the vibe a few days later and did her own little spin on it (under “Schmatas, Tsotchkes and Chozzerai”):

Looking to change your image? Wear it on your next date to dispel the notion that just ’cause you’re an accountant, you still know how to party.

Also available in “Not Yo Mama’s Nice Jewish Girl” for those ladies who think donning a miniskirt and a pair of slutty heels is too subtle.

From Rotem Gear Shop. Extra points to them for the “yo”.

And a proper English curtsey to DailyJews for the heads up.

In thanks I’ll add a hearty American “heeehaa!” and a gushy Israeli “wallah, maaaaakseeem!”
