Leaving Brooklyn? Oy vey!

September 29th, 2005

NEW YORK - “Leaving Brooklyn? ‘Oy vey!’” That’s on a Department of Transportation - approved sign motorists will now see as they cross the Williamburg Bridge into Manhattan from Brooklyn, home to a large Jewish population.

Oy vey is an original Jewish expression of dismay or hurt. In this case it implies “We’re so sad you’re leaving.”

Other signs from the Brooklyn Bridge to the Belt Parkway welcome motorists to the borough:

“Not Just A Borough, An Experience”; “Name It…We Got It”; “Like No Other Place in the World”; “Believe the Hype.”

The sign was originally rejected by the DOT, which also nixed a sign reading “Leaving Brooklyn: Fuhgeddaboudit!” at the Verazzano Narrows Bridge.

Selling at Peddler on the Roof!

September 21st, 2005

Rotem Gear is going on the road this Saturday, September 24. Well, maybe not that far down the road, but we will be participating in the new Peddler on the Roof rooftop flea market and “elevated shopping experience.”

Billed as “the flea market for the Fred Segal set,” Peddler on the Roof features new and established fashion designers, along with artwork, collectibles both new and vintage, hand crafted home decor and much more.

So we’ll be there, selling lots of neato girly styles like baby dools, our new cap-sleeved tops and ringer gym tees.

Channel 7’s “Eye on LA” will be filming there, so who knows… Rotem Gear may go from on the road to on the air!

Info on Peddler and discounted admission is available on the Peddler on the Roof website.

Design for a Cause Helps Hurricane Katrina Victims

September 3rd, 2005

talmud quote hurricane katrina Rotem Gear is one of many designers who have contributed designs and products to Design For A Cause –– a portal for non-profit shopping.

In response to the crisis, Design for a Cause has gathered designs and products you may purchase to show your support AND help support those in need.

There are a lot of great t-shirts on this site created by various people (including ours, at left) that will donate their profits to appropriate charities, like the Red Cross, NoahsWish, HSUS, United Way, etc. Wearing the t-shirts will help spread the word to more and more people as well about helping out.

It goes without saying that t-shirt buying is not nearly enough –– it is simply a way to give a bit more while people are buying their favorite garments anyway. We hope everyone will donate to the agencies of their choice.
